Electrical power is crucial if you live in a motor home. To ensure good service, and protect ourselves from poor grounding, low power, incorrectly wired pedestals and so on we added some protection.
- EMS system (2010): Built in the coach is Progressive Industries EMS-50HWC electrical protection system. Installed in line, it is always on. It monitors the electrical power line, and warns (or shuts off) in case there is an incorrect wiring in the pedestal. Yes, it happens even in the newest parks. There is a readout in the hallway for continuous monitoring, as well as a readout in the wet bay so you can check pedestal wiring etc. while hooking up power.
- Transfer switch (2013): Monaco installed a transfer switch made by IOTA. Tis switch has a history of failure, even resulting in fires. This was changed out to a industrial model by ESCO. Much more robust.
- New batteries (2014): Battery power keeps things going. In late 2014, we installed new chassis batteries and house batteries. House batteries are genuine Trojan T105s.
